Additional mechanics have been terminated from Herrill Lanes/ Bowl 360 New Hyde Park due to no leagues. A source told Bowlage.com that one such mechanic, who had been working at Herrill Lanes for upwards of 20 years, was terminated this week. When asked why the person was being fired, the person was told that "there are no longer any leagues," and therefore the mechanic was no longer needed. When asked whether they were referring to summer or winter leagues, the source said they had no idea about winter leagues, but were told that almost all leagues were already in the process of leaving to surrounding centers such as AMF Garden City, South Levittown Lanes and Bowlero Mineola.
This situation comes in the midst of the rumors that Herrill Lanes will be slowly transitioning to string pins in the coming weeks. Furthermore, two other sources with direct knowledge confirmed that the string pins transition is already underway at Herrill. As most people are already aware, one of the contributing factors to centers wanting to transition to string pins is the reduction in overhead expenses such as staff, so the termination of mechanics would only strengthen the confirmation that the transition has begun.
What's even more puzzling is that according to multiple sources, there is a league that currently bowls at the center in the summer called the Summer Tuesday Trios League. And by that regard, either the terminated mechanic was lied to when told there were no leagues or the center doesn't consider the summer Tuesday league an actual league. Nevertheless, the story continues as we wait and see what happens with the center going forward.
